A GOLD AND SILVER-INLAID BRONZE ARCHAISTIC VASE, HU
MING DYNASTY, 15TH / 16TH CENTURY

cast with a globular body rising from a splayed foot to a slender flared neck, the mouthrim
bordered with archaistic motifs, the neck with pendant cicada lappets, all above a leiwen
band and stylised dragons around the lower bulbous body, the foot further bordered with a
key-fret band, the detail all inlaid in gold and silver, the central key-fret border interrupted
by a pair of handles cast in the form of a mythical beast mask, the body of an attractive
dark chocolate-brown patina
