304  An ivory netsuke of Ebisu, by Hidemasa.
                 Early 19th century

                 Climbing over a huge blowfish (fugu), wearing an
                 eboshi, trousers (kukuri hakama) and a garment
                 whose long sleeves are bound together with a tasuki
                 band tied into a large bow at the back, the fugu’s tail
                 fin turned to the right. Pupils of the fish of black
                 horn. Signed Hidemasa.

             305  A small ivory netsuke of Ebisu with a blowfish.
                 Early 19th century
                 Wearing Shintô ceremonial robes with an eboshi,
                 Ebisu is standing on one leg and balancing a huge
                 fugu on his head, supporting it with his hands.
                 The eye pupils of the fish of black horn.
                 Height 4.2 cm

             306  An ivory netsuke of Hotei and three karako.
                 Mid-19th century

                 Holding a Chinese-type fan, Hotei sits laughing and
                 leaning onto his bag, surrounded by three festively
                 clad karako making music, one playing a biwa, one
                 beating a drum and one playing a flute. Inscribed
                 Kagetoshi in a raised rectangular reserve.
                 Height 3.8 cm; width 4.1 cm
