434 A fine black wood and light boxwood netsuke of
a mask box, by Masayoshi. Mid-19th century
Carved on the top with the nô masks of Jô and Uba,
the sides finely engraved with kiri and chrysanthe-
mums, the box opening to reveal poets Kakimoto no
Hitomaru with a brush, Ono no Komachi with a fan
and a third poet. Signed Masayoshi to the underside.
