Seated on a tree trunk’s circular cross-section,
head raised. The himotôshi lined with green-
stained bone.

428 A reddish-brown wood netsuke of a group of
fifteen tortoises, by Yôzan. Early 19th century
Partly climbing on top of each other amidst
waves, one tortoise detachable like the peg
of a manjû bearing an eyelet for the cord.
Signed Yôzan.
