426 A Edo school ivory netsuke of an octopus fighting two
monkeys, by Ikkôsai. Mid-19th century
Seated on the back of an overturned mortar the octopus Provenance
tries to free himself from the attack of two monkeys emer- Collection Dr. Richard Wolf, Frankfurt
ging from beneath the mortar. The eye pupils of Acquired in the German art market in 1984
black horn. Signed Ikkôsai in an oval reserve.
