           the huan Western Zhou or later
           The thin plaque simply carved as the silhouette of
           a dragon, the S-shaped body engraved with neatly
           lined spirals, the reverse undecorated, with a cutting
           line still remains, the white jade altered dark brown
           in areas, a small aperture drilled at the center for
           stringing; the small bird of rectangular form with
           large round eyes, simply engraved on both sides to
           depict wings and tails, the short pointed beak drilled
           with an aperture for stringing, the translucent stone
           with natural inclusions; the small hippopotamus
           simply engraved to depict the head and limbs, the
           reverse unfinished, perforated at the snout and tail
           for attachment, the green stone translucent and
           with natural inclusions; the two rectangular dragon
           plaques carved on one side, each deeply engraved
           to depict an S-shaped dragon, the reverse with two
           pairs of drilled channels for attachment, the white
           stone polished smooth; the huan carved on both
           sides with groups of spiral-comma pattern within
           line borders, the surface with a stepped cut line,
           the olive-green translucent stone mottled and lightly
           encrusted. (6)

           FOUR ARCHAIC JADE CARVINGS
           Western Zhou Dynasty and Warring States Period

           Consisting of two small jue discs, each engraved
           with chilong pattern on one side, the reverse plain,
           the translucent white stone polished with few earth
           incrustation remains; a large jue disc, thinly sliced
           and engraved with chilong pattern on one side,
           the reverse plain, the translucent olive-green stone
           softly polished, the surface with remains of cinnabar
           and earth encrustation; a fish-form ornament of
           elongated form, the eyes, gills and fins detailed on
           both sides, the olive-green stone with remains of
           cinnabar and earth encrustations; together with two
           carved bone ornaments. (6)
           Small jue: 1 1/4in (3.1cm) diam each;
           Large jue: 2 1/8in (5.4cm) diam;
           Fish: 4 5/16in (11cm) long;
