A rare partially-gilt bronze multi-armed
seated figure of Bodhisattva with
mandorla and stand
Tibetan, circa 15th century
Seated cross-legged, wearing an elaborate
Buddhist tiara and and hair accessories
including a small figure of Buddha, elaborately
cast and applied with forty-two arms, each
hand holding a Buddhist attribute or in a
mudra, on a double-lotus base, the surface
with extensive traces of shallow gilding
remaining, on an eight-footed four-tiered
base, deeply pierced and cast with bands of
formal scrolls, set at the back with a lobed
oval mandorla repoussé with eight petals of
Buddhist emblems.
The figure 24cm (9½in) high, overall 35.5cm
(14in) high (3).
