A gilt-bronze figure of Amitayus
Qianlong six-character mark and of the period,
dated by inscription to gengzin year (corresponding
to AD1780)
The figure with eyes looking downwards and hair
piled in a high knot, the arms and ears with heavy
Buddhist jewellery and the hands resting in the
lap in dhyana mudra, the figure seated on a tiered
pedestal and framed by a flaming mandorla.

A gilt-bronze figure of Tara
17th/18th century
The figure delicately cast with eyes serenely
downcast beneath the high seven-pointed crown
inlaid with rubies, seed pearls and turquoises,
the slender swaying body, long arms and calves
similarly adorned with jewellery inlaid with precious
stones, the left arm raised in kartarimudra with a
lotus blossom at the left shoulder, the right hand
reaching down in varadamudra, the figure seated
on a double-lotus pedestal.

The present lot shows Nepalese influence, and
indeed may have originated in Nepal, in the use of
inlaid precious stones. In comparison, the Tibetan
taste preferred semi-precious materials such as
turquoise and coral.
