18th/19th century
The hexagonal lantern enamelled on five sides with a shou character in
red between a lotus flower below, a gardenia flower above, a peony to
the right and a peach spray to the left all amidst leafy stems, the sixth
side with a door also with a shou character beneath a bat, the lantern
raised on a stepped foot painted with twin rows of lotus-petal lappets,
the fixed cover also with lappets supporting the domed roof painted to
imitate tiles beneath a row of ruyi heads below the stepped finial with
stylised lotus-petals.
