A GROUP OF FIVE EMBROIDERED SILK WOMAN’S
GARMENTS
Late Qing/Republic period
The first a red silk jacket embroidered with a mandarin duck badge
of the seventh civil rank, cream colored sleeve bands and collar
trim (extensive wear, staining); the second a dark blue satin ground
skirt with couched gilt thread embroidery of dragons and phoenixes
(minor wear); the third a red silk ground skirt embroidered in satin
and knotted stitches with panels of auspicious emblems intermixed
with larger flower heads (fading, minor stains); the fourth a red silk
gauze skirt embroidered in satin and knotted stitches with panels of
butterflies and flowers (wear to black trim, fading, soiling); the last of
ecru satin embroidered in the sanlan technique with flowers and bats
(extensively altered).

A GROUP OF CHINESE TEXTILES
The first a massive red satin horizontal celebratory hanging with
inscriptions cut from black velvet and glued to the ground, trimmed
with brocade borders and knotted fringes (minor soiling, loose edges
to characters); the second a Manchu official’s winter hat of black
velvet with red twisted silk tassels, clear glass finial for the fifth civil
rank and attached queue (wear); a pair of slippers for bound feet
with embroidered decoration (extensive wear); and a pair of heart-
shaped pouches in mustard yellow and blue satin embroidered in fine
gilt-wrapped couched thread with a sanduo branch (extensive wear,
soiling loose threads). [6]
