A CARVED JADEITE LIDDED CENSER
Republic period
The fitted domical lid supporting an intricately undercut curling
dragon finial focusing his attention on the flaming pearl carved to
one side of the rim, fitted to the body of compressed ovoid form
supporting opposing dragon form handles of similarly elaborately
scaled and whiskered detail, further adorned on one side by an
additional chilong-type raised relief dragon clinging upside down to
the vessel, all surmounting the waisted foot encircled by a raised-
relief dissolved geometric-scroll border and vertical flanges; the stone
displaying vibrantly whorled patches and streaks of evergreen, apple
and sea-foam colors all neatly fitting into the wooden stand of pieced
and reticulated blooming lotus and archaistic scroll patterns.
