For a two-handled Wanli-marked censer and cover of similar profile
to ours, see Bonhams, Hong Kong, ‘Imperial Splendour’ 3 December
2015, lot 55, where it is compared to other examples in the Qing
Court Collection illustrated in The Compendium of Collections in the
Palace Museum: Enamels 1, Beijing, 2011, pls. 100-101.
For a Ming bombe censer with a central band of decoration very
similar to that found on our vessel, and attributed to early Ming see
Yang Boda (ed.) The Complete Collection of Chinese Gold and Silver,
Glass enamelware, Vol. 5, (Zhongguo jinyin boli falangci quanji - 5
falangci), Beijing 2002, p. 17, no. 18. Two other items in the same
publication are worth comparison; a Wanli-marked candlestick with a
chevron band to the interior similar to that found on the edge of the
rim and foot of our vessel, p. 94, no. 109; and a slightly later Kangxi
vessel of similar profile to ours but decorated with a more formalized
and less lively central band of meandering lotus, p. 131, no. 157.
