A RARE RED-GROUND ALTAR FRONTAL
17th/18th Century
The lower portion decorated in bright colors and gilt thread with a
full-faced four-clawed dragon amidst clouds holding a flaming pearl
in its right claw and suspending a four-character plaque from its
mouth, the upper portion with a Buddhistic lion clutching a ribboned
ball with floating characters in the background, the upper border with
peony scrolls, reduced from a larger composition.
