BOTTLE
Gan Xuanwen, early 19th century
Of rectangular shape tapering at the foot, with carved
raised panels on each face, below a cylindrical neck and
resting on a carved flat foot, the inside finely painted with
ink and colors, one face with landscape, the reverse with
an inscription in clerical script signed Nanyue Gugang qiao
(‘The Woodcutter of Gugang’).

AN INSIDE-PAINTED ROCK CRYSTAL ‘LOTUS
POND’ SNUFF BOTTLE
Ye Family Studio, 1913
Well-hollowed, the compressed globular bottle supported
by a splayed oval foot ring, with a straight neck, flat lip, the
interior painted to depict a lively lotus pond with golden
fish swimming under large blossoms and umbrella-like
stemmed leaves; one side dated guichou zhongqiu (mid-
autumn of 1913), finished with a Ye Zhongsan signature
and a small red seal mark.
