A Tibetan gilt copper alloy figure of Tsongkhapa seated in dhyanasa-
na on a double lotus throne, right hand in the dharmachakra mudra
holding a now missing stem, the left resting on his lap, lotus flowers
flanking his shoulders support a sutra text and an upright sword, he
wears a monk's patched robe and the typical Gelugpa hat with ribbons
dropping behind the ears on to his back rather than more commonly
to the side on the shoulders. Sealed. 17th/18th century. Weight 1573 g.
           H. 20 cm.
Although the hands are placed in a different position than what is custom
for Tsongkhapa's iconography it can be compared to a similar rendering of
a Tsongkhapa figure sold at Bonhams, Paris, 4th October, lot 19.
