The vessel is potted in the shape of an archaistic jue supported on
three slender legs decorated with three elongated dots, painted
around the body with a five-clawed dragon pursuing a flaming
pearl above waves, flanked on two sides with a pair of C-shaped
handles surmounted by two short posts. The interior is decorated
with a cloud scroll. The base is inscribed with the reign mark.

Jue vessels of this design from the Jiajing period are very rare. Compare
to an almost identical example sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 8 October
2019, lot 3009.
