                                                             The exterior is finely inlaid in gold and silver with an
                                                             archaistic geometric design. The interior and the base has
                                                             green malachite encrustation.

60                                                           A SILVER-INLAID IRON ARCHAISTIC CENSER
                                                             AND COVER, FANGDING
                                                             LATE MING-EARLY QING DYNASTY

                                                             The censer is finely inlaid in silver wires on each side with a
                                                             taotie mask enclosed within a diaper pattern cartouche. The
                                                             two narrow sides are set with a pair of dragon-form c-shape
                                                             handles. The cover is similarly decorated and surmounted
                                                             by a finial adorned by a yin-yang symbol. The base is inlaid
                                                             with an apocryphal six-character Xuande mark.
