AN AMBER AND JADEITE
COURT NECKLACE
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The necklace is comprised of 108 rounded
amber beads divided by four jadeite ‘Buddha’s
head’ beads, with one connected to a gourd-
shaped bead, fotouta, supporting a tassel
intersected by a flattened round jadeite
pendant, terminating to a tourmaline bead.
The necklace is further interspersed by three
strands of glass beads, each also terminating
with teardrop-form stones of turquoise and
jadeite.
