An unusual large painted lacquer model of a qilin
Qing Dynasty
The mythical beast carved standing on four straight legs and looking
forward with a spotted face and grinning mouth showing strong

two bats in flight above towering rockwork and foaming waves all
bordered by gilt floral sprays, a fitting shaped as a vase tied with a
sash balanced on the back of the qilin, the tufted tail raised and the
body carefully painted with darker streaks on orange-red ground to
imitate animal hide.
