The cover carved with a scene of a lone scholar supported on a staff
crossing a mountainous river landscape towards another scholar and
boy reading by a window of a hut sheltered by a spreading pine tree,
the sides of the box and cover finely incised with a geometric ground.

other boxes of the Qianlong period in the National Palace Museum,

A carved cinnabar lacquer circular box and cover
Qianlong
The cover finely and delicately carved in relief with four pomegranates
growing on leafy flowering branches, all on a meticulously carved
diaper ground, the box similarly carved with four further pomegranates,
the interior of both the box and cover lacquered black.
