A pair of Imperial zitan ‘dragon’
panels set within zitan cabinets
The panels 19th century
Each set with three loose shelves within a
hardwood frame with simple square scroll
decorative friezes at the top and bottom edges and
bevelled borders on the side panels, each cabinet
with a single door, one opening to the right and the
other to the left and carved in mirror image with
one front-facing fierce four-clawed dragon above
and two further four-clawed approaching from each
side to grasp at a single flaming pearl in the centre
of the door, all amidst deeply-layered cloud scrolls,
the hinges and clasps later additions.
Each cabinet 78cm x 49cm x 190cm high (30¾in x
19¼in x 74¾in high) (2).
