A SANCAI-GLAZED GUANYIN FIGURAL GROUP
Late Ming/Qing dynasty
The bodhisattva portrayed seated in lalitasana with left foot
supported on a lotus blossom surrounded by large acanthus leaves,
backed by a halo and flanked by her acolytes, a vase bearing willow
leaves and the filial parrot, all below a rocky canopy supporting
monkeys representing the untamed mind, the ensemble fronted by
a balustrade and borne on an integral waisted stand, the unglazed
back and foot covered with a brown wash.
