The three types of fruiting branches combined together forms the
‘Three Abundances', sanduo, and together they symbolise the wish for
numerous sons, a long life and blessings.
While other similar cups of this design are known, it is rare to find a
pair as exquisitely enamelled and well fired as the present pair. Other
Yongzheng examples of this design include a pair illustrated in Chinese
Porcelain, The S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, Hong Kong, 1987, pl. 98;
a pair from the R. I. C. Herridge Collection, sold at Sotheby’s Hong
