A FAMILLE VERTE TWO-HANDLED PEAR-SHAPED VASE
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)

清康熙 五彩開光麒麟山雞紋獸耳方瓶

The vase is decorated to the exterior with two peach-form panels, one
enclosing a mythical beast amongst waves, the other a pheasant amidst
fowering branches, all surrounded by foral scrolls reserved on an iron red
scrolling ground. Each side of the neck is applied with an animal-head handle.

                                                                                QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

                                                                                清 彩繪花神杯

                                                                                The cup is decorated to the exterior with a scene of ducks swimming in
                                                                                a pond amongst lotus fowers and a kingfsher fying above. The reverse
                                                                                bears an inscription in underglaze blue, followed by the seal mark shang,
                                                                                for appreciation. The base is with an apocryphal Kangxi mark.

                                                                                                   The decoration of ducks and lotus which can be seen on the present
                                                                                                   cup represents the sixth month of the Chinese lunar year.

                                                                                                   The inscription reads Gen shi nizhong yu, xincheng luxia zhu, which
                                                                                                   can be translated as ‘The lotus root is like jade emerging from the

                                                                                                   mud, gathering beads of dew on its heart-shaped leaves.’
