A TIXI LACQUER STEM CUP
16TH CENTURY

明十六世紀 剔犀如意紋盃

The cup is carved to the exterior through well-
defned black and red layers of lacquer with a
repeating pattern of ruyi scrolls. The interior and
base are lined with metal.

AND COVER
19TH CENTURY

清十九世紀 剔紅人物故事圖蓋圓盒

The cover is carved with a scene of four scholarly
fgures within a rocky landscape amongst wutong
trees. The sides of both the box and cover are
carved with a diaper ground above a lappet band
encircling the foot. The interior and base are
lacquered black.
