A CLOISONNÉ AND CHAMPLEVÉ ENAMEL
AND GLASS LANTERN
18TH CENTURY

The lantern is of square section, and each
side is inset with a glass panel within blue
key-fret borders, two are decorated with a
gold dragon leaping amidst clouds, and one
is hinged as a door, all below a petal-lappet
band that surrounds the open top. Below
are openwork scroll aprons and a square
platform with openwork balustrade raised
on a faceted gu-form support that rises from
the square platform that forms the top of the
cushion-form base.

A pair of cloisonné and champlevé enamel
lanterns of similar form and decoration, but with
diferently painted glass panels, was sold at
Christie’s New York, 24 March 2011, lot. 1617.
