A YAOZHOU CELADON CARVED ‘LOTUS’ BOWL
NORTHERN SONG-JIN DYNASTY, 12TH-13TH CENTURY
The bowl has rounded conical sides encircled by a thumb-groove band below the rim on
the exterior and well carved on the interior with a graceful, curved stem bearing a large lotus
blossom and a leaf, all under a glaze of dark olive-green color that falls in a slightly irregular
line on the shallow ring foot and also covers the base.
