A BLUE AND WHITE MEIPING
18TH CENTURY
The vase is painted in rich tones of cobalt
blue with a dense pattern of leafy, composite
fower scroll interrupted on the shoulder
and the lower body by double line borders,
all between a band of overlapping petals at
the foot and a band of leaf tips encircling the
short neck.

A RARE PAIR OF FAMILLE VERTE
ROULEAU VASES
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
Each vase has a bow-string band encircling
the neck and is decorated allover with
butterfies below a blue scroll band on the
upright rim. A double circle in underglaze
blue is on the base.

A very similar design of clusters of butterfies
delicately picked out in blue and white, iron-red,
green, yellow and iron-red enamels, can be seen
on a tapering vase dated to the Kangxi period in
the Palace Museum Collection, Beijing, illustrated
in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the
Palace Museum - 38 - Porcelains in Polychrome
and Contrasting Colours, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 134,
no. 122.
