Yue Yun was the eldest son of the famed
general Yue Fei (1103-1142) who served the
Southern Song dynasty. His exploits in battle
! ghting valiantly against the invading Jurchens
of the Jin dynasty earned him folk hero status.
His name and that of his son Yue Yun is
associated with Confucian values of loyalty,
modesty and ! lial piety; patriotic themes that
had particular resonance in the early Kangxi
                period.
