When two workmen join in the production of any speci-
men of pottery, they sometimes add the words Narabini (and)
and Sin (together) to their names, as shown by the following

Two characters are used to signify painted by, Hitsu
or Hitsiisu, a pencil or a pen, and Ga or Yegakii, to draw
or delineate yegaku is the more correct rendering of the
;
latter character when it is associated with the name of a
painter.

When the decoration is in various colours, the character
Sai is used to express this when the latter is combined with

ga, it signifies that the artist, whose name is given in the
inscription, painted the example in colours.
