A LONGQUAN CELADON JAR, GUAN
MING DYNASTY, 14TH CENTURY
The well-potted, tapering globular body is covered overall with a
glaze of pale olive-green color. The jar is supported on an unglazed
foot rim burnt orange in the fring, with the underside of the base
countersunk in the center.

The undecorated, exterior of this jar serves to emphasize its well-potted
shape as well as its attractive glaze. Compare the similar undecorated
Longquan celadon jar, with cover, dated early to mid 14th century,
illustrated by R. Krahl in Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum,
vol. I, Yuan and Ming Dynasty Celadon Wares, London, 1986, p. 293, no.
