A FINELY PAINTED BLUE AND WHITE JAR
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The sides are decorated with two scenes
of fgures in landscape settings, in one a
young man kneels before a seated offcial
surrounded by attendants, and on the reverse
with a young offcial observing a gathering
of court ladies, several on horseback, and
one kneeling on a carpet, all below ‘The
Three Friends of Winter’ (pine, prunus
and bamboo) on the neck. An apocryphal
Chenghua mark is on the base.
