his storage jar has a protruding lip and wide mouth. The
Tspherical body tapers as it meets the foot. It is decorated
with two parallel lines that run around the jar, just below
the short neck. The body is painted with an abstract vegetal
motif executed mainly with broad brush strokes. The base is
glazed, and the footrim appears to have been ground smooth.
This vessel was made at a kiln in Haeju, South Hwanghae
Province. Such jars were meant to store foodstuffs and
were kept in the women’s quarters in a traditional Korean
household setting. The protruding lip secured the cord that
