Gift, I962 (62.187.1)                                   Massachusettso;riginallytherewasprobablya set offour or,at most,six. The
                                                        placementof thebasketon a goldgroundmayhave originatedwith the Chinese
                                                        painter but,alternatively,couldhave beeninspiredby Westernfamiliaritywith
                                                        Yongzhengexportporcelainsrichlypatternedin gold,silver,and black.

                                                        Little is known of theFrenchfamily of Berwickshirew, hosearmsappearon the
                                                        reverseof this dish.Thesamearmorialappearson the reverseof twoplates in the
                                                        BritishMuseum,London.
