A GREEN AND WHITE GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE For two bottles of this type but of darker green tones, see Sotheby’s,
1730-1780 New York, The Neal W. and Frances R. Hunter Collection, 15
Of rounded spade shape, the mold-blown body suffused with swirls of September 1998, lot 89; and Hugh M. Moss, Chinese Snuff Bottles
green and white sandwiched between clear glass layers; stopper. from the Collection of the Rt. Hon. The Marquess of Exeter, K.C.M.G.,
2in (5.1cm) high London, 1974, p. 56, G1. Robert Hall, op.cit., no. 6, poetically notes
that the bottle would have been made to imitate jadeite, but that the
$4,000 - 6,000 immediate effect of this masterly work also brings to mind clear green,
watery rock pools through which bright sunlight is transmitted.
