THREE RED OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF
BOTTLES
19th/20th century
The first an ovoid bottle with cranberry red
overlay decorated with dragons fluidly carved
to both main sides against the transparent
ground suffused with ‘snowflake’ specks;
the second a clear glass bottle built on a
platform supported on three legs, the applied
red overlay carved to present bat, peaches,
pomegranate, and Buddha’s hand citron; the
last a compressed globular bottle, carved
through a layer of dark red overlay, depicting
fish jumping out of lotus pond, the bottle of
cloudy white color with numerous tiny white
specks (chips, rubbing).

A JADEITE AND TWO HARDSTONE
SNUFF BOTTLES
The first a thin-sectioned jadeite bottle
carved with flowers and rocks on both
sides, the matrix of predominantly lavender
coloring, mottled with apple green and off-
white areas; the second an ovoid hardstone
bottle carved with Shoulao holding a peach
on one side, and a bat on verso, the green
and black matrix cast with a notable patch
of ruby in purple pink; the third a pear form
bottle decorated with two raised lion dog
masks at shoulder, the stone of russet and
pale green coloration.

A GROUP OF EIGHT SNUFF BOTTLES
Including one amber bottle with incised
orchid on one side, and reversed with an
image of an elephant; two rose quartz
bottles, one carnelian carving drilled as a
bottle, one turquois bottle, one lapis lazuli
bottle, and two smoky crystal bottles (some
with small chips, all with dry glue deposit, or
encrusted with black substances to bases).
