A FAMILLE VERTE ‘SILK AND RICE
CULTIVATION’ ROULEAU VASE
19th century
The gently tapering cylindrical body vibrantly
enameled with a scene of rice grain processing,
reversed by a scene of silkworm cultivation, the
scenes separated by trees and rocks, the shoulder
painted with four shaped cartouches, each
enclosing an object representing the ‘Four Scholarly
Accomplishments’ against a floral diaper ground,
the neck painted with a continuous riverscape
scene, all supported on a neatly trimmed inset foot
ring, surrounding the clear-glazed unmarked foot.
