           This gouache on print was based upon a photograph taken by Felice
           (Felix) Beato, an Italian photographer who was one of the first of his
           profession to enter China and to document the Second Opium War.
           He visited Beijing in October and November of 1860, where he took
           photos of Lord Elgin and of Prince Kung, who signed the piece treaty
           on behalf of the Xianfeng Emperor ending the Second Opium War.
