                                  period Qi State chancellor Guan Zhong being rescued from
                                  con nement by long-time friend Bao Shuya, with traces of
                                  black and green pigments

                                  17TH CENTURY

                                  with a slightly curved cylindrical body, the exterior carved
                                  in low relief with a continuous scene depicting two phoenix
                                  soaring with folded and outstretched wings respectively above
                                  large craggy rockwork and blossoming peonies, the tranquil
                                  setting arboured with bamboo shoots, lingzhi and pine trees
                                  14.2 cm, 5 in.
