QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
modelled on a section of bamboo-culm with corners forming
low hoofed feet on the underside, the front carved in low-relief
with three boys ying a kite in a garden, one boy controlling
the kite as others look on, the underside carved in the round in
high relief with the ‘Eighteen Luohan’, each animately holding
his attribute with some riding various mythical animals

AN IVORY ‘DRAGON’ SEAL
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
of rectangular form, carved in high relief with two dragons
coiled opposite each other around a ‘ aming pearl’ with
their sharp claws sinuously in pursuit of the jewel, their
faces detailed with bulging eyes and gaping mouths, among
tumultuous ruyi-shaped cloud scrolls, the seal face carved in
seal script reading sandai hufu xuan (Three Generations of
Tiger Tally), traces of black pigments
