QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
of square section with indented corners, the cover incised and
painted in the qiangjin technique and further picked out in the
tianqi polychrome enamels, decorated with two ve-clawed
writhing dragons contesting a ‘ aming pearl’ surrounded by
ruyi-head clouds, the cavetto and exterior sides with shaped
panels, each enclosing three bats among ruyi-head clouds,
all on a red ground and raised on a short conforming foot
bordered by a geometric band, the underside and interior
lacquered black

MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
of circular form with at upper and lower surfaces, delicately
carved overall through the layers of rich cinnabar lacquer with
oral blossoms and leaves, with pomegranates decorated in
diaper patterns against a diapered ground of similar pattern,
the interior lacquered black
