           (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
           Naturalistically cast with its body slightly
           curved to the right, balanced on its fins and
           its tail thrashing in the water, its eyes double
           inlaid with shakudo and gilt; signed on its belly
           Nihon koku Maruki sei within a square seal.

           LYING ON SEASHELLS
           Meiji era (1868-1912),
           late 19th/early 20th century
           Naturalistically cast and chiselled, modelled
           with two distinctive rose fishes, the largest one
           with its mouth exaggeratedly open, both lying
           over assorted small clam shells, a large sazae
           (horned turban shell) at the front; unsigned.
