A large pale green jade ‘Eight Buddhist Emblems’ ruyi scepter
Qing dynasty
The finely polished pale stone with an even soft luster, the head of slightly convex form with
a raised border enclosing a central shou character surrounded by the vase, the parasol, the
lotus and the fish, the elegantly curving handle embellished with a lobed panel containing the
endless knot, the victory banner and the conch, and a further lobed panel at the tip containing
the wheel of life, the shaft further decorated with three incised bats in flight on the top, and two
further bats amid cloud scrolls on the underside within the crisply carved raised edges.
