NOTE:
Wang Shangyi (1905-1972), a native of Zhongshan,
Guangdong, was interested in paintings and calligraphy
from an early age. During the Second Sino-Japanese
War, he followed the Nationalist government to Sichuan
and worked at the Central News Agency. During this
period, he worked closely with artists in Chongqing such
as Fu Baoshi, Li Xiongcai, Huang Junbi, Xu Beihong
and others. Wang Shangyi and these friends often gifted
works to each other. He went to Hong Kong after 1949,
then moved to the United States after 1964 where he
worked at the University of Michigan and the University
of Wisconsin.

幼嗜書法，兼習國畫。抗戰年間，溯三峽入蜀，就職於
中央通訊社，師從黃君璧。期間與在渝的藝術家如傅抱
石、黎雄才、黃君璧、徐悲鴻等過從甚密，時常互贈作
品。1949年之後赴港，1964年後移居美國，任職于密西根
大學和威斯康辛大學。
