A THREE-COLOURED CARVED LACQUER ‘PEACH’ BOX AND
COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The box is crafted in the form of a peach, with the cover decorated with a
conforming panel enclosing a scholar holding a pair of castanets on a terrace
below a wutong tree in a mountain landscape which is carved through to the
green-lacquer water and the black-lacquered sky. The sides of the cover and
box are decorated with pairs of peaches amongst fowers and fve bats, wufu.
