A CARNELIAN AGATE ‘POMEGRANATE’ VASE
18TH CENTURY
The vase is carved as a large pomegranate bursting with seeds, the crowned
top forming the opening of the vase. The sides of the fruit are carved with
an openwork gnarled branch bearing fowers and smaller pomegranates, all
below a bat in fight. The stone is of an opaque white and bright red tone, and is
cleverly carved to highlight the design.
