A WHITE JADE RUYI SCEPTRE
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The ruyi-shaped head of the sceptre is carved in low relief with a
taotie mask of conforming shape, surmounted by an openwork qilin
clambering over the tip of the sceptre. The shaft is carved in high-relief
with a further qilin and terminates in an archaistic scroll. The jade is of
an even pale tone.
