A GREENISH-WHITE JADE CONJOINED
SEAL
19TH CENTURY
The square and circular seals are joined by a
shaped arch with two loose rings. The stone is of a
pale tone with tiny dark fecks.

Sun Xingyan (1753-1818) was a notable scholar-
oficial under the Qianlong (1736-1795) and
Jiaqing (1796-1820) reigns. The circular seal face
is carved with Sun’s pseydonym, fang mou shan
ren, and the square seal face reads chen xing yan
yin, ‘the seal of your humble subject Xingyan’.

A WHITE JADE CARVING OF A SEATED
SCHOLAR
19TH CENTURY
The bearded scholar is carved seated on a rock
boulder beside some books and a large washer.
The stone is of a pale tone with a faint honey russet
area highlighting the right hand.
