A pair of sgraffito ruby ground medallion bowls with underglaze
blue and famille rose decoration
Daoguang six-character marks and of the period
Each painted in shades of cobalt blue with festival lanterns along the interior walls and a bird’s
eye view of a lantern top filling the roundel at the center of the well, the four circular reserves
on the exterior containing colorful lanterns and other accessories surrounded by a ruby red
ground incised with scroll patterns and brightly hued flowering branches, the mark written in
underglaze blue seal script on each recessed base.
