C. 15th to 16th CENTURY SUKHOTHAI
Ayutthya Kingdom (Siam). Important and rather large head with Thailand, 15th century. The heavily cast head of Buddha showing
the typical stylistic character of the Ayutthya period (until 1767), a serene expression, with slender lips and down-cast eyes
but also the influence of its classic precursor, the Sukhothai. The underneath high arched eyebrows, tight curls and ushnisha.

Thailand, 1238-1438. The Buddha showing a serene expression,
with slender lips and down-cast eyes underneath high arched
eyebrows. Fitted hardwood base from around 1900.
Condition: Beautiful patina with malachite and soil encrustation.
The hardwood base with minor wear.
Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937).
Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian
industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the
Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
